Building a 'Girl Rescue Center' in Kisii, Kenya

grcklein.jpgThe Girl Rescue Center aims to provide temporary shelter to women and girls, in case they have to leave their old homes because of domestic violence issues, or Female Genital Mutilation for example.

The local YWCA (Young Womens Christian Association), building the center, will support the women in their search for a permanent solution. They do this by, for example, opening the conversation with parents about the dangers of female circumcision.

The secondary goal of the Rescue Center is to provide space for the members of YWCA Kisii to do their jobs. YWCA Kisii provides counseling sessions to victims of HIV/Aids, and informs the people of greater Kisii about using condoms and the dangers of HIV. There is a lack of information, and a great need for a Rescue Center like this.

In underdeveloped countries like Kenya, only 1 in 3 boys and 1 in 5 girls knows how to prevent an HIV infection. Present for Future likes to change that. Help us by giving us a donation. Buy some of the goods we need, big or small, it's up to you. Some of the goods we need to finish the rescue center are some bags of cement, blankets, paint and doors. Educating Orphans

kids.jpgMany "older" people die of Aids. Older meaning over 25 in this case. In many cases, first the father (eg. the breadwinner) dies, and shortly afterward mom will decease. The young children will be cared for by surviving family members. The scale of this problem causes families to thin out, leaving no-one to support the orphaned children. Lack of money means a lack of nutrition, causing children to live on the streets or die. Sending orphans to school is considered a luxury many families can't afford.

The decision by the Kenyan government to make basic education free, is a great step forward. However, this doesn't mean that every child can attend school. A uniform is compulsory, and schoolbooks and examinations are not free at all. Many families cannot afford the "hidden" costs. Present for Future is there to help.

Children who are left on their own will in many cases end up on the streets, as prostitutes or child-soldier in one of the neighboring countries.

Present for Future raises money to send vulnerable children to elementary, secondary or tertiary schools. You can support a child for a week, month or year or buy them uniforms or schoolbooks.
